Roland Emmerich and Co.: The film world mourns the loss of David Brenner

Hollywood mourns the loss of one of its most successful film editors: David Brenner (1962-2022) died on February 17 at the age of 59 in West Hollywood, California. This was confirmed by his wife Amber "The Hollywood Reporter". His death has sparked a wave of grief on social media. Many of Brenner's famous colleagues also spoke up, most notably Zack Snyder (55).

The two have worked together numerous times, including the films Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017). "Devastated by the news of the loss of my dear friend and colleague David Brenner... kindest man, loving father and husband, talented artist... you are deeply missed," Snyder wrote on Vero.


Director Roland Emmerich (66), with whom Brenner worked on the films "Independence Day" (1996), "Der Patriot" (2000) and "The Day After Tomorrow" (2004), shared his grief via Facebook: "Our Deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Amber, Anna, Haider and Sasha on the sad and tragic death of Oscar winner David Brenner, a beloved husband and father, and a dear and very gifted friend."

"Avatar" film project with James Cameron and Jon Landau

Until shortly before his death, Brenner worked with James Cameron (67) and Jon Landau (61) on the editing of the "Avatar" sequels. "We have lost a very dear member of the Avatar family, David Brenner, an extraordinary editor of the Avatar sequels. Our hearts go out to his wife Amber and their children Annie, Haider," they both tweeted and Sasha. His talent, compassion and friendship will be truly missed."



In Hollywood, Brenner was an extremely popular and successful film editor. In 1990, he shared an Academy Award for Best Editing with Joe Hutshing for the film Born on the Fourth of July.
